I have a love/hate relationship with the scale. Obviously I love it when it shows that my efforts are equaling weight going down and I hate it when the number does not move and I am kicking my butt everyday to make it move!
I have been slowly learning over the last couple months to not judge my success health wise on the scale. Do not get me wrong, I still weight myself weekly and keep an eye on the scale. I have not thrown it out the window but sometimes wish I had the willpower to do that.
About two months ago, the scale stopped moving for about three weeks. I went from losing 2-4 pounds a week to losing nothing! It was frustrating and for a day or two I really let it bother me. Then I tried on a pair of jeans that should have fit me and they were too big! It was my wake up moment that I needed to let the scale go. This journey had to be about more than just the scale or I was not really making a committment to being healthier and only working to see a different number each week.
With that being said, I am still super excited that I weighed myself today and I am officially down 50.6 lbs! Although my life and health is not centered around what the scale says, it still feels pretty good to know that I have hit a goal that I set for myself when I started this journey. I remember stepping on the scale the first day and seeing a number that made me sick. I remember thinking it felt impossible to even lose ten pounds and here I am 50 lbs later feeling amazing!

Setting the Example: My Journey So Far

Why did I finally commit?!?!
I have always struggled with my weight and in the past I would focus all of my attention on cardio and really restricting calories in order to lose weight. Each time, I would successfully lose weight, and then the weight would slowly creep back on.
After having my third child in September of 2012, I was at my heaviest weight. Frustrated, I gained another 10 pounds over the holidays and the beginning of the year. With three little ones at home, I found it hard to find the motivation or energy to lose the weight.
At the end of March 2013 as I approached my 32 birthday, I finally decided I was done. Looking at my children, I knew I should be setting the example for them on healthy eating and exercise. I had been following various people on Facebook who had success with Beachbody programs (Insanity, TurboFire, Chalean Extreme, etc) and with drinking Shakeology. I was not looking for a quick fix shake or diet. I wanted to truly commit to changing my health and Beachbody definitely had tons of success stories of people just like me.
I had tried Shakeology in the past but never really stayed committed. I started drinking it actively on March 18th and also purchased the workout program, Chalean Extreme. My coach through Beachbody said it was a great program for weight training and I made the investment and committed 100%!
Chalean Review:
Over the last 90 days, I have completed three phases of the Chalean Extreme program, each one being 30 days long. The workouts range between 30-45 minutes which includes your warm up and cool down. They focus on weight training and learning to not starve yourself to lose weight. The two themes you hear throughout are muscle burns fat and that you need to fuel your body in order to lose weight.
The first phase, the Burn Phase, was tough! I was so out of shape and did not feel strong at all. Slowly, by the end of the 30 days, I was seeing huge results. I continued through the Push Phase and the Lean Phase with amazing results! I have now invested in a great set of weights but did a majority of my workouts using the resistance band that was included and some hand weights I had around the house.
Chalean Extreme also includes ab workouts, a cardio workout, and yoga workout. I mixed these in with also doing cardio at the YMCA three other days of the week. The cardio workout is a great 30 minute routine that kicks your butt in that short amount of time!
Shakeology Review:
Shakeology is a healthy snack I have daily. I typically have it right before I work out or right after. It is very filling, helps curb my appetite for unhealthy food, and gives me a great burst of energy. It is FULL of great things for you, click here for a complete list of ingredients and more information. Some people use it as a meal replacement but currently I use it as a snack.
Overall Reflection:
This program has completely changed my life and the lives of my family. My children love to do the workouts with me and my older daughter drinks Shakeology with my daily. My husband has also committed and has lost almost 40 lbs eating healthy and working out 4 days a week. Our whole family is committed to eating more healthy foods but at the same time not starving ourselves to be "skinny". Health is the goal! We are setting the example for our children and I am happy to report it is a good example! We are so much happier as a family and I know this change in lifestyle has changed us forever!
